Thinking of reducing single-use plastic water bottles within your organisation, but unsure where to start or how to progress next?

At #OneLess, we are all about collaboration and shared learning. We recognize that while everyone’s path to sustainability is unique, there is a lot we can discover by investigating the actions taken by those working towards the same goal. That’s why we’ve developed a series of #OneLess case studies, which showcase the actions taken by ten diverse and innovative #OneLess pioneer network members, all seeking to reduce their plastic use, for the sake of the ocean. These pioneers have eliminated single-use plastic water bottles, encouraged refilling through tap water and drinking fountains, and removed other needless single-use plastic items in their offices, stories, venues and communities.

Innovations include introducing a reusable drink cup during matches at Lord’s Cricket Ground and Arsenal, rolling out drinking fountains across Lewisham’s open spaces, working with suppliers to stock alternative products at Eden Caterers and DP World London Gateway, and rolling out high-profile public campaigns such as Plastic Free LSE and Canary Wharf’s Breaking the Plastic Habit.

Whether you are a private or public organisation, or work in the hospitality, healthcare or education sector, there are challenges and lessons applicable for everyone. These #OneLess pioneers are constructively disrupting the way Londoners drink water, with innovations, collaborations and shared learnings.

Collectively, thanks to the efforts of the above pioneers;

  • Half a million single-use plastic water bottles have been removed from points of sale. Throughout the entire 82 members of the #OneLess pioneer network, over 3.1 million single-use plastic water bottled have been eliminated.
  • Nearly 250 drinking fountains are installed and active within their organisations, with over half a million bottle refills so far.
  • Over 4 million items of single-use PET plastic, such as cups, lids, and straws, have also been removed.
