BASIS (the British Association for Sustainable Sport), #OneLess and the Marine Conservation Society are organising a meeting, hosted by Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Monday 3 December 2018 from 12:30pm, to address the issue of single-use plastic at sports events. The meeting will bring together operational managers and senior decision makers from sports venues, clubs and events across the country.

Single-use plastic pollution is one of the most pressing issues facing the ocean today. Public awareness and concern of the issue and its impact is at an all-time high, media interest is substantial, and many organisations are reviewing their use of single-use plastic to avoid reputational damage.

How should sports clubs and venues respond, and what practical action can they take to reduce and eliminate single-use plastic from their events?

During the meeting we will explore the barriers and challenges that the sector faces in reducing single-use plastic, present best practice case studies that demonstrate what others have achieved already, and provide sports clubs and venues with guidance on policy, ground safety, operational and waste management that will support them in implementing positive changes in their events.
